What a wake up call

Photobucket

I know that filtered water and home filtration systems have been around for a long time. I know that. I know I'm waaaaay behind the times because we still drink water from the tap...err...we *used* to drink water from the tap. After trying out PUR's One-Click Faucet Mount filtration systems and finding this in my less-than-3-year-old faucet, I'll never drink another drop of unfiltered water....

Ummm, yeah. Gross. Pretty sure that's concrete, paint, and some other disgusting stuff I'd rather not identify. Probably left over from construction of the house...back in APRIL of 2009. Ugh. My stomach just turned. What a wake up call....we've been drinking construction debris!

Thankfully, my stomach and I can settle down about this whole water issue because we've got a PUR One-Click Faucet Mount living where all that gross stuff used to live...so I KNOW my drinking water is free from disgusting garbage like bits of concrete. (I still can't get over that.)

When the box arrived from PUR, I took everything out of the box in typical "me fashion" (I take everything out the packaging...always.) Here's what all you get:

Looks simple enough, right? It is! I definitely thought the whole "one click" thing was an advertising slogan -- but its not. I went from this...

to this...

in less than twenty minutes. : )

So here's my sink -- the "before" shot. Pretty typical.

Photobucket

First step: remove the current faucet housing. I'm not handy when it comes to tools so if you are, save me your speech about using the wrong tool here. : ) I'm sure its wrong, but it did the job. I'm sure we have the right tool out in the garage somewhere (among the 253165461 tools) but the disorganization out there is another post for another day. : )

Step 2: Mount the plastic housing. (They provide four to choose from and help you decide which is best for your sink. Sweet!)

Next, snap on the filter and insert the cartridge.

Guess what - we're done!

Run tap water just as you normally would...just turn on the faucet

Photobucket

For filtered water, just turn this little lever...

Photobucket

...and filtered water comes from beneath the filter! And this little green light tells me that the filter is ready for use. When it turns yellow, I'll need to get a new filter and when it turns red, its time to replace the filter. (Pretty nice to not have to think about it!)

Photobucket

If I need to remove the filter, I just press these two white buttons and it pops right off. (They're hard to see in the pic, so I added the arrows.)

The faucet mount swivels so I can move it out of the way if I need to...

Now, let's talk about taste. I did a little taste-test and was shocked at the taste difference. My tap water has a distinct metallic taste...yuck. PUR's mineral-filtered water tastes crisp, clean, and delicious! I have found that my coffee tastes better now when brewed with PUR water and even our pasta has a fresher taste than before! We'll never go back to drinking tap water!

Buy It: You can buy the entire line of PUR One-Click Faucet Mounts at retailers nationwide. They retail for $29.99 - $39.99 depending on where you buy.

I have always wanted one of the PUR One-Click Faucet Mounts because I worry about what is really in our water. I want to keep my family chemically free as much as possible and I am so tired of buying bottled water.

I live in base housing (enough said) and while the water is relatively "safe"--I've always wanted a faucet mount, but they are so expensive.

This would be perfect. We have a 7 month old baby and our brita is not working and bottled water is not earth friendly!

I need this because I have an autistic son (PDD-NOS & SPD) who complains that the water from the sink tastes different then the water from the bathroom. We need this so he will like the water and drink more of it.
